New Goodies!

Got some new toys from B&H today.  Basically I sold off the 16-35II and flipped it for a brand new 17-40 (yes another, don’t remind me!!!) and some accessories I’ve needed for a while.  Part of my issue with the 16-35II was the filter size being 82mm…  So I was on the fence for getting filters because a 82mm CP is 50% more expensive and a 82mm 10 stop ND doesn’t exist….  Not to pick a lens just because of filters, but the size/price/weight of that lens was a bit much for me for what it offered me.  I liked 16mm over 17mm, but 35mm -vs- 40 was giving up quite a lot.  Especially when I have the FE already.  Plus the 2.8 was a stop faster, yes, but when I’m shooting landscapes I’m stopped down anyway.  When I need the speed, the primes come into play (specifically the 24L).  So for me it wasn’t worth it.

So, Mr UPSanta brought me:

  • Canon 17-40mm f/4L EF (USM) LENS – CA17404LEF
  • Canon EW-83H LNS HOOD f/24-105mm f/4L IS USM – CAEW83H  <– needs slight trimming but gives you a good 17-40 hood instead of the terrible one that comes with it
  • Hoya 77mm SUPER-HMC – CIRC POL (THIN) – HOCPSMC77
  • Hoya 77mm HMC – ND400 FILTER – HOND400MC77
  • B+W 67ea-77ei STEP-UP RING #1 – BWSUR6777
  • General Brand 58-77mm STEP-UP RING – GBSUR5877
  • General Brand ZOOM SLIDE DUPLICATOR 1:2.5 – GBSDZ
  • General Brand T-MOUNT f/CANON-EOS – GBTMCAF
  • Benro MC-96n6 CARBON MONOPOD – BEMC96N6

I finally got a CP and 10 stop ND which I’ve wanted forever.  I also picked up a CF monopod after a lot of debating.  The last 2 items on are a slide copying device.  I’ve been torn between that and a scanner.  Honeslty I know a scanner would work better, but they’re soooo big.  My issue is I have 35mm slides and negatives as well as 120 negatives.  I’m hoping I can get this to work with my 35mm stuff (both slides and negatives with some PP) as that’s 85%+ of what I need to get done.  It’s smaller and cheaper than a scanner, so hopefully it works.
