Nikon Family Photo!

I guess it’s about time I make it official and put a shot/post about this on the gear blog.  I’ve officially switched to Nikon.  When my 5Dii drowned in August I realized I could use that opportunity to try a D700.  It’s the camera I wish canon would make, but they refuse to for whatever reason.  It basically merges my 2 favorite canon bodies into one; the 1Dii with it’s AF and FPS with the 5D and it’s 12mp FF sensor.  It’s also still in the smaller body style (taller and not as wide though which I don’t prefer).  This body has amazing AF, is FF and can produce 8fps with it’s battery grip.  I’ve never really liked battery grips but all canon’s FPS bodies have them built in, at least I can remove this one when not in use.  The Nikon zooms have proven to be amazing.  That’s the 14-24, 24-70 and 70-300 which all beat Canon’s versions (the 14-24mm has no canon version but it’s better than the 16-35II).  Nikon’s 50mm 1.4 beats canon’s as well, but can’t match Sigma’s (when you get a good sigma, their QC is terrible!).  I had to settle for a sigma 24mm 1.8 though as Nikon doesn’t make any wide fast primes currently…  That’s the only issue I’ve had.  I will say there are a lot of differences between the 2 systems that are small, but add up.  Menus, layouts, all sorts of things.  But I shot my canon for the first time in ~2 months to take this shot, and it now feels more different than the Nikon, so I guess I’m learning.

The last shot in this gallery is how I tapped my CC button onto my RRS bracket.
