THE FAMILY TRUCKSTER!!!!!

What, not what you were expecting? Yeah, us neither….. ha!  Well, the unfortunate issues in Japan pushed our schedule for getting the new car up a bit.  Jess skied with a subaru dealer last weekend and he told her about what was going on there car production wise (all foresters are made in Japan) and warned us it’d be a long long time until we’d see anymore brought in (we live right next to the port too).  We also prefer manual transmission cars (better MPG, cheaper AND more fun?!) which makes what we want harder to find (also a base model with no options).  So I filled out the USAA online form for them to get us a killer deal on Sunday after getting off the phone with Jess and by noon on Monday I was (test) driving our new car!  The deal was done and the car was ours less than 24 hours after Jess suggested we get this thing going.  Not the ideal way to buy a car IMHO, but the USAA deal was amazing and we really love the color we got (dark gray metallic officially).  It’s weird getting a bigger car/truck like this that gets BETTER MPG -vs- my WRX and even takes regular gas at the pump.  The forester feels MASSIVE after the sedan and MINI even though it’s built on the same platform (but current imprezas are longer than mine was, IE they have more room too).

Enough about the car, we’re also obviously VERY close to Isabella’s appearance (not sure if I’ve put her name on the blog before?).  She’s due Tuesday and we fully expected Nikki to pop long before now.  She’s now the most pregnant she’s ever been in her life (and will be….) because Elias was 4 days early.  But Bella is happy where she is an taking full advantage of some quiet time alone with Mom I guess.  She’ll come out when she’s ready, but we’re ALL ready to meet her!  So this weekend was a pretty slow weekend tying up some loose ends, getting both cars seats in both cars, moving Elias over to the driver side of the cars, all that good stuff.  We’re very much ready and waiting, so we’ll see.   If you’re not on facebook or twitter but check this site more than weekly, check out the new black social media tab at the top.  It shows what we’re up to on both facebook and twitter which is where I’ll be posting updates “live” as they happen.  The daily website updates last time were way too much work, so don’t expect much more than weekly updates here this time around.

and here’s an ode to my 2004 WRX.  We owned this car for 1 week short of 8 years (bought it 3/20/2003).  I put 155k miles on it including our awesome Canadian road trip.  I also got involved in a subaru forum thanks to this car which led me to creating this site and NSOP…  That forum also introduced me to some amazing friends and has taught me everything I know about cars today.  With the help of those friends I’ve done a lot of maintenance on this WRX (which is also why a subaru based on the same platform was a no brainer for us) including replacing axles and swapping out rear struts.  I loved my car, but it was time to go to make room for the new (impending) member in our family.  I also get the MINI now so all is not lost, I have a car that’s insanely fun to drive handling wise, and HP wise it’s tame enough to keep me out of trouble!

  1. I was just browsing through nasioc and found your website. Do you have any advice for a complete novice with a cannon t2i, to take pictures like yours?

    • Practice practice practice!!! Actually, I made a photo forum as an offshoot of NASIOC. It’s called Newschoolofphotography.com. Check it out as we’re a small laid back forum with 75% subaru/car guys. But the best advice I can offer is to get out and shoot a ton, share your work and get critique on how to improve. Also ask a TON of questions.

      Good Luck!
      Ben
