I must admit, I’ve lived in (or very close to) Jamestown since 1991, but I had never been to the Fools Rules Regatta. I knew about it, I knew Chris Powell was the “chief fool” (he runs the regatta) and I knew the basics. I’d just always had other commitments the day of the event unfortunately. Here’s the setup in a nutshell: you have 2 hours to build a “boat” on the Jamestown town beach. It can be prebuilt, and reassembled. All materials must be non nautical. There are 5 basic classes, 1, 2, 3, 4, and unlimited. They represent the number of people on the boats. The course is the length of the town beach, and it’s a downwind course. It’s pretty simple really and a TON of fun. It’s obvious some people were first timers, and some veterans of the event, but everyone was there to have a great time. Even watching is a blast. This is certainly something I’ll be back for next year, and maybe as an entrant.

Ben,
The pictures are GREAT!!!! Glad you finally made it to the regatta. Would you mind if I gave others the link to your Fools’ Rules site? I might like to have it linked to the Jamestown Yacht Clubs Fools’ Rules page. It is a great slide show!
Let me know your thoughts.
Thanks,
Chris
