Beavertail Sunset 5.21.2015

ILCE-7M2-DSC02167Sitting at the house Thursday night I saw some dramatic clouds rolling in at sunset.  I grabbed my kit and ran out the door and headed to Beavertail.  I’ve been exploring the shoreline there for the last year or so looking for some fun non lighthouse locations and I’ve got a few I’m really enjoying perfecting…  I’ve been working on both my ideal composition for these places as well as timing that right with decent light.  I’m getting closer with these!  Enjoy.

  1. Hello
my name is cyril and I am from France
First of all, I really love your pictures as it is as well my way to do photos.
I ve got a canon 50d and 17 40 mm. I am pleased with my gear but I am thinking a lot to switch with xt1. Your advice are very useful.
But I don’t really want to sell my 17 40mm as it Is very good lens and I saw that with Sony a7 I can use it with adaptator.
and I am wondering which one is best choice.
I like Lanscape photography, but I turn to street photography very often.
Keep inspiring us with your reviews and nïce pictures.

    • Cryil,
Thanks for the kind words. Funny you mention the sony A7. I’ve since switched to sony full frame mirrorless as well. I’ve actually owned every single version they’ve made over the past year! I started with the a7 as it was the perfect compromise… But the AA filter on that camera is too strong and you get their weird green reflections around light sources in images (lights on bridges for night landscapes or lights in houses for architecture work). So I couldn’t use it for paid work… I then tried the a7r which was great for scapes and arch but it was quite slow to AF and very noisy so it wasn’t a good camera for weddings or people shooting… It doesn’t have an AA filter though so the green orbs are gone. The a7s doesn’t have enough resolution for me (I did buy one and try it just to see for myself) but it’s AF was better and it’s ISOs were AMAZING!!! But then the a7ii came out so I bought one and it was very good for me for ~6+ months. No orbs. Middle of the road ISOs and resolution. Good AF. I highly recommend it. I will admit I’ve recently upgraded mine to an a7rii. 42mp, DR for days, great high ISOs and even better AF. If you can afford one they’re amazing, but if not the a7ii is my second recommendation as an all around camera or the a7r if you’re shooting where AF and noise isn’t a concern.

      Good Luck!
      Ben
