New Gear: Canon 35mm f2 and 100mm f2

Well, the 135L sold quickly which allowed me to order it’s replacement(s)!  I didn’t use the 135L all that much, but I did enjoy it’s speed for it’s length and the idea of using it as a travel tele (we haven’t been traveling a whole lot).  I’ve also owned a 85mm 1.8 at one point I also liked but ended up selling to try another lens combo.  So now I’m playing the averages and I picked up a 100mm f/2 to see how I like that FL.  The nice part is it’s 2x the FL of my next prime (50mm) and it’s also a ton smaller and lighter than the 135L was.   So it’s much more likely to be added to the bag more often.

The second lens I picked up is the canon 35mm f/2.  It’s got a slow scratchy AF motor in it, but it’s TINY!  Smaller than canon’s 50mm 1.8 even.  I’ve been wondering how I’d like the 35mm focal length, so this is a relatively inexpensive way to try it out.  The 35L is a thought, but it’s expensive and VERY big.  I also like the idea of the 35mm f/2 for the XSi for Nikki for low light shooting as the 50mm options get a bit long when you factor in the 1.6.

  1. Hi Ben, I guess you arr right..The only advantage could be using the Tokina (without a covetrner) instead of the Canon because of it’s F2.8 where Canon has F3.5-4.5 but i do not think that will matter that much when shooting landscapes on a tripod at F10-F22..I am going to look if i can try to make a metal ring (like the LEE Wide Angle adapter ring) wich will fit further backwards on the 10-22mm lens so i can place the filterholder further backwards and try to use at least 1 ND filter at 12-13mm without getting the vignetting caused by the WA adapter/filterholder.At the moment i am using a LEE filter holder but was wondering wether a Cokin X-pro system would work better in terms of less vignetting caused by the filter holder..?Kind regards, Jeroen Stel
